Richard E. Studyvin, Sr. age 77, of Toledo, passed away, Monday, December 13th, 2010 at St. Ann Mercy Hospital. He was born October 2, 1933 to Vern and Helen (Duncan) Studyvin in Hull, Illinois. Richard was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as an M.P. for 2 years. He was a detective employed with the City of Toledo Police Department, retiring after 33 years of service. Richard also worked part-time at the University of Toledo in security. He was an avid bowler and a volunteer at the Toledo Zoo in the education Department. Richard was a devoted father and grandfather and always supported his children and grandchildren in all of their sporting endeavors and events. He loved coaching Little League Football and served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for several years.
Richard was the finest example of what it meant to be a man. He loved and supported his family with great intensity. Richard was married to Suzanne at a very young age and recently they celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary. He was full of surprises for his devoted wife and he took pleasure in giving to her and others. He was always quick to offer a helping hand when he saw the need. His strength and compassion were known by all. Richard was an example of a selfless, Godly man, always putting others before himself.
Richard was preceded in death by parents and brother, Dean Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Suzanne Studyvin; children, Richard, Jr.; Doug (Laura) Studyvin and Robin (John) Rokosky; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brothers, Ronald (Karen), Roger (Cindy), Robert Studyvin and Terry (Debbie) Scott. Also surviving is loving longtime friend, Linda Hofner, who was like a daughter to Richard and Suzanne. He is also survived by his dog and friend, "Lucy". Richard's loving heart and kind spirit will also be remembered by many dear and special friends.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). American Legion Post 512 will perform a service at 7:00 p.m. Friday. Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Bauman. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
