Richard E. Hitchner

September 17, 1949 — July 9, 2014

Richard E. Hitchner, age 64, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg after a two year courageous battle with cancer.

He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather. He was born at Riverside Hospital in Toledo, Ohio on September 17, 1949 to Lois (Moorehead) Hitchner and James A. Hitchner. Richard graduated from Rossford High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. Upon returning from his military service in Germany, he was employed at Art Iron. Later, he was employed by the Libbey Owens Ford Company at their East Toledo and Rossford plants. While at LOF he had the unique experience of being employed at the same time as his mother and sister.

He also worked for 25 years at American Lincoln in Bowling Green, Ohio until its closure in 2006. His favorite past time hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending lots of time with his family.

But he especially enjoyed his time with his five grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his mother Lois Hitchner, daughters Julie (Blaine) Helton, and Rebecca Piasecki (fiance Brandon Johnson) sisters Mary Hogan and Tina (Norman) Hoxworth. Grandchildren Anthony Brown, Alison Piasecki, and Emma, Olivia & Madeline Helton. Nieces Kelly Freund & family, Lynne Hogan, Sierra Hoxworth, and nephew TJ Aunger. Aunts Rachel Terry and Marcella DeMars and cousins Frank Terry & family, and Phillip Terry & family. Richard is also survived by childhood friends, Jim Hill & Bob Ostafi.

He is preceded in death by father James A. Hitchner, brother Robert Paquin, uncle Ted Moorehead, cousin David Terry, and stepmother Millie (Hitchner) Rogers.

Richard's family would like to thank the Oncology and Radiology staff at the V.A. Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and also the staff and his nurse Vicki Karnes at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg for their care and compassion during his time of treatment.
