Richard "Dick" Langenderfer

January 8, 1927 — September 5, 2014

It is with sadness that we announce the death of our father, Richard Lee Langenderfer, on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born January 8, 1927 to Leo Victor and Mary Rosalie (Gilbert) Langenderfer. He married Margaret "Peggy" Marie (Harbauer) Langenderfer on June 14, 1947.

Dad attended St. Agnes grade school and graduated from Toledo Central High School after he entered into World War II his junior year. Dad was a proud Navy vet and served his country well in the Navy Armed Guard during World War II.
Dad loved his family and worked countless hours at two full time jobs. He loved the city of Toledo and proudly served as a police officer for over 20+ years retiring in 1976. He worked as a tool & die designer full time as well as a police officer for over 17 years. We asked him why he does this and he replied that he did not want his family to eat lard sandwiches like he did during the depression.

Dad was devoted to his Catholic faith, his family, his friends, and his German heritage where he was a member of the Toledo Schwaben Verein for over 30+ years. In 1959, he coached his first football team in the CYO league. Dad developed a passion for this challenge and coached successfully as "Uncle Fudge" for many years. During this period his teams won Toy Bowl Championships and learned proper technique for blocking and tackling. Many of his players have approached the family and made comments on dad's teaching and said they were further ahead with those techniques than the other team members in their future football careers. Dad got the ball rolling for us at Toledo Central Catholic High School. There have been three generations of Langenderfer's that have attended Toledo Central Catholic.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Buckenmeyer, and his brother Gerald Langenderfer, brothers-in-law, Larry Harbauer, James Harlow, William Buckenmeyer, and sister-in-law Jean (Harbauer) Harlow.

He is survived by his children; Richard (Dick) & Cindy Langenderfer Jr., Robert (Bob) & Kathy Langenderfer, Ronald (Dutch) & Elaine Langenderfer, Rodney (Spike) & Pat Langenderfer, and Michelle (Shelly) & Dave Steer. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Langenderfer and Mary (Harbauer) McCartney, and brother-in-law John and Bev Harbauer.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for making dad's short visit comfortable.

The family will receive guests Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). The family will also receive guests on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church (4227 Bellevue) where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toledo Central Catholic High School, the Toledo Police Fallen Officers fund, or a charity of the donor's choice.
May he rest in Peace!
