Richard D. "Rick" Salazar
Richard D. "Rick" Salazar, age 64 of Toledo, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at Mercy St. Anne Hospital, Toledo. He was born January 10th, 1947 to Ambrose and Lucille (Yglesias) Salazar in Toledo. Rick was employed with the Toledo Shipyard, AT&T (Ohio Bell) and Riker Products, including 34 years of dedicated service as a Splicer at AT&T. He was truly a wonderful man who sacrificed much to help others. He would do whatever was necessary to lend a helping hand. He was a gracious man. Rick had many selfless attributes and hobbies, most of which centered around his giving nature, especially his talented woodworking skills through which he created thoughtful treasures for his friends and family. He also loved to read and was truly a friend of the Toledo Lucas County Library. Rick was a true patriot, envying the United States Navy for their core values; Honor, Courage and Commitment. He lived his passion for the Navy through his sons. Rick will be remembered most for his sense of humor and his innate ability to bring a smile to your face.
In addition to his father, Ambrose, Rick was also preceded in death by his brothers, Trinidad "Denny" and David and his first wife, Judy Salazar. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Becky (Jacobsen) Salazar; mother, Lucille Atkins; children, Richard (Brenda), John and Floyd (Sherry) Salazar, Michelle (Bobby) Smenner, Dennis, Jason and Kyle Lehman; grandchildren, Samantha, Ashley, Joshua, Savanna, Amber, Tyler, Justin, Rayanne, Maci, Brooklynne, Jenna, Lilianna and Adrianna; brothers, John and Robert (Sue) Salazar; sisters, Lucy Swartz, Linda (Rudy) Guardiola, Nancy (Laurie) and Delores Salazar and Roseedith Atkins and special family members, John Henry (Betty) Maxcy and Nina (Regis) Ledet. Also surviving Rick are extended members of the Salazar, Jacobsen, Yglesias and Maxcy Families.
The family will receive guests Friday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Resurrection beginning at 1:30 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1842 Airport Hwy. The Gathering Room will be open Saturday from 10:30 a.m-12:30 p.m. for final Visitation prior to leaving the funeral home.
