Rhea Stewart

July 22, 2012 — November 17, 2012

Rhea June (Poffenbaugh) Stewart, 95, passed away on November 17, 2012 in her own home surrounded by her family and the wonderful support of Hospice. The care provided by the daughters allowed Rhea to realize her wish to remain in her own home.

Rhea and her late husband, Wayne, were all about family. The cottage they built in the 1960s was a place for the family and extended family to spend countless summer and weekend days gathering to enjoy Rhea's cooking and fun family games. Living well into her nineties allowed her family to return this love by taking care of her.

Rhea was voted "May Queen" her senior year (1935) at Waite High School. She remained in contact with her high school by being active in two sororities until her 90th birthday. With her sunny disposition, she was the center focus in the family and on vacation. Rhea's daily routine included keeping track of how everything was going with the grandkids.

Rhea and Wayne attended an E.U.B church on the east side until they moved to West Toledo when they joined Hope United Methodist Church. In her later years, Rhea volunteered one day a week in the church office. Rhea was a member of the Eastern Stars for about 80 years. She was also a member of the Pursurs Club, a group that completed a variety of volunteer projects.

Rhea was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years and son-in-law, Ted McDonald. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marsha Stewart, Sharon (Bert) Barnett and Pam McDonald; grandchildren, John (Lisa) Hopkins, Chris (Sherri) Ludwig, Melinda Hammontree, Bert (Sharon) Barnett, Jr., Sherri (Greg) Hermes, Heather McDonald and Scott McDonald (fiance, Tasha Shuff); great-grandchildren, Mason Delmar, Christopher Ludwig, Casey Ludwig, Kaitlyn Ludwig, Krystina Price, Nichole Hammontree, Amanda Hammontree, Grant Barnett, Brock Barnett, Luke Barnett, Gregory Hermes, Miranda Hermes, Sherrell Malaniya Searcy, Kaylee Shuff, Kassadee Shuff and Kortney Schuff and great-great grandsons, Evan Price and Alex Bashor.

The family will receive guests from 10-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial at Toledo Memorial Park.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Hope United Methodist Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
