Rex A. Strong, Sr., age 88, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Majestic Care formerly known as Lutheran Home of Toledo. He was born on March 1, 1934 to Raymond and Della (Umbaugh) Strong in Springfield, OH. Rex was a veteran of the U.S Air force serving during the Korean War. Rex worked at Doehler-Jarvis for 15 years and was also a union carpenter for many years. He met and married Barbara Barron on August 3, 1978 and they were married for 32 years until her passing in 2010. Rex enjoyed football, camping, watching old cowboy movies and listening to oldies music. His greatest times were spent with his family especially his grandchildren. Rex's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Barron) Strong; son, Rex Jr.; step-daughter, Barbara; step-sons, John and Mark; and sisters, Joann, twins Reatha, and Leatha, Carolyn, and Linda. Left to cherish Rex's memory are his step-children, Mike (Judy) Barron, Jim Barron, Pam (Bill) Glass, and Cathy (Randy) Garcia; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, (419-473-0300).
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Wounded Warriors, which Rex supported or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff, caregivers and friends at Majestic Care for all of their love, care and support given to Rex and our family over the years. Also, the wonderful staff with Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
