The Reverend William N. Kight, age 67, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at The Toledo Hospital following a lengthy battle with complications of diabetes and renal failure. He was born on September 1, 1943 in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan to William B. and Opal (Wentz) Kight. An ordained Presbyterian Minister, he last served as Pastor at Grace Presbyterian Church in Toledo until he retired. Reverend Kight served as Director of Youth Ministries at Riverside Church in New York City and as Pastor of Presbyterian Churches in Carney's Point, New York; Cleveland, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan and West Unity, Ohio. He was a member of Maumee Valley Presbytery and Rotary International and served on various boards as a spiritual and civic consultant. Reverend Kight was a foster father and mentor to many young people. While in seminary he founded the Youth Street Ministry in Princeton, New Jersey. He continued his ministry to youth in each of the communities that he lived in.
Bill graduated from Piqua High School in 1961 in Piqua, Ohio where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He later graduated from the University of Michigan (cum laude) in 1965 and in 1969 he graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. Following graduation at Princeton Theological Seminary, Bill was ordained at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Piqua, Ohio in 1970. He was a devoted husband, father, foster father, brother and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Bill married Frances Jansen in 1974 and she preceded him in death in 2003. Also preceding him in death are his parents; step-mother, Constance Kight; many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and in-laws. Together they had one daughter, Dawn Marie of Toledo and she survives along with grandsons Paul, Peter and Ace; sister, Sandy (Jim) Tellefsen; niece, Judith Dodds of Cayce, South Carolina; nephew, Randy (Jessi) Dodds of Toledo; special friends Juan Castaneda and his son, Daniel and numerous cousins and foster sons.
Memorial Services for Reverend William N. Kight will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1171 Oakwood Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43607.
