Renee Devalpine

July 23, 1953 — December 30, 2018

Renee Devalpine of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. Born in Prairie Village, KS, Renee attended the University of Kansas, where she studied geography. She raised her children, Molly and Daniel, in Toledo, OH, during which time her love of music and art found outlet in volunteering as an art and music docent at the Toledo Museum of Art.

Two of Renee's great pleasures were playing the piano and contra dancing, and she danced her way around Northwest Ohio and Southeastern Michigan. As part of planning committees for the Ann Arbor Council for Traditional Music and Dance, she helped organize the Tree Town Stomp and the First Saturdays contra dance.

Renee was active in church, teaching Sunday school and serving as second reader at the Second Church of Christ, Scientist in Ann Arbor. Renee's love of sharing information and knack for patiently explaining concepts was put to good use throughout her career, including as a librarian at Ottawa Hills High School and a media librarian at WGTE in Toledo.

As someone with a deep interest in those around her, Renee could have a conversation with anyone. Her care for others manifested in constant, unassuming acts of kindness.

She is survived by her children, Molly (Ed) Muldoon and Daniel (Mary) Roth, her sister, Stephanie, and her nieces, Anne, Kit, and Mary. She was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, January 5 from 3:00-6:00, at Concourse Hall, 4531 Concourse Drive, in Ann Arbor.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Renee's memory to the Ann Arbor Community for Traditional Music and Dance.
