Refugio "Ralph" Quintanilla, age 65, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully Monday, August 26, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 4, 1948 to Ramiro and Estefania (Duran) Quintanilla in Harlingen, Texas. Refugio was employed with GM Powertrain for 30 years before retiring. He was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Refugio liked old classic cars, to remodel, watch cowboy movies, listen to Mexican music and garden. He loved nothing more than the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren; who were the light of his life.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Quintanilla; sister, Rosa Garcia; brother, Manuel Quintanilla; and brother-in-law, Rick Banda. Refugio is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diane (Banda) Quintanilla; children, Christine (Ralph) Rose, Jose Quintanilla, Ray Quintanilla and Anthony (Rachel) Quintanilla, Sr.; mother, Estefania Quintanilla; granddaughters, Olivia, Marissa and Alyssa; great-grandson, Anthony, Jr.; brothers, Antonio (Mary), Juan (Roberta), Raymond (Angie), Gabriel (Cindy) and Carlos Quintanilla; sisters, Frances (Raul) Hinojosa, Stella Quintanilla and Maria Antonia Duran; father and mother-in-law, Pablo and Benita Banda; brothers-in-law, Pete (Pam), Ruben (Maggie), Art (Chanita), Manuel and Jamie (Maria) Banda; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 550 Clark St., Toledo. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association, American Kidney Foundation or American Heart Association.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff and caregivers with Life Star Transportation, the Dialysis Center and the Intensive Care Unit at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for all of the love, care and support given to Refugio and his family through this difficult time.
