Raymond D. "Ray" Sparrow

Raymond "Ray" DeRoy Sparrow, age 89, of Toledo, passed away February 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 24, 1935, in Toledo to Oscar and Lavenia (Mininger) Sparrow. 

I attended Woodward High School and graduated from Libbey High School. After graduating from high school, I joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. 

 After being discharged from the Air Force, I married Chloe Kinder and we had three kids together, Scott, Tammy and Jackie. We divorced in 1978. In 1981, I married my soul mate, Mary. She had a 5-year-old son, Jason Boomer. Mary did a "bang up job" raising Jason and me. Jason grew up to be a really fine man, he served in the Navy Sea Bees. Jason married Dorothy on April 21, 2007, together they gave us Teagan on February 3, 2008.

  I retired from Sun Chemical in 1998 after 14 years. Before that, I spent 25 years at Owens Illinois. I had 8 grandchildren and a bunch of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren which I saw very little of..."My Bad!"

 I say goodbye for now but hope to see all of you on the other side, wherever that is. I will be cremated laying on my stomach. Can you guess why? See ya! You might think I had an ordinary life, but you should have seen it in COLOR!

  I am survived by my Wife, Mary S. Sparrow; Daughter, Tammy Allred; stepson, Jason Boomer; grandchildren, Gary Allred, II, Scott Sparrow, Tony Sparrow, Hope Cain, Candace Schiffler, Jacqueline Salazar and Billie Johnson. Many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Mark Myers and niece, Tracy Myers. 

  I was preceded in death by my parents; son, Scott; daughter, Jackie; granddaughter, Crystl Pringle, niece, Lori Coulter; nephew, Doug Myers; sister, Suzanne Dull and brother, Donald Edward Sparrow.

 The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). A Memorial Service will be held immediately following visitation at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Toledo Humane Society.
