Ray E. Childers, age 75, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio; passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at his daughters home in Holland, Ohio. He was born on June 4, 1942 to William and Hedwig (Akama) Childers in Canton, Ohio. Ray proudly served three tours in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War; he served from 1959 - 1971 (12 years). For over 40 years Ray was a CDL commercial truck driver for various companies including, Barr-Nunn, Granger, Transport America and Rom Transportation. He sacrificed time spent with his family to provide a good living for them. Driving truck was a way for Ray to see the United States. When he wasn't working he enjoyed fishing, computers; teaching, programming and problem solving and wood working.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Vandercook; wife, Sharon Childers and his fellow military comrades. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dawn (Ron) Ziethlow, Sean (Gwen) Childers and Jeffery (Jayna) Childers; grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, Julie, Diane, Jessica, Ronnie, Lisa, Josh, Kara, Steven, Brandon, Ryan, Brad, Avery and Connor; great-grandchildren, Carol and Aiden; step-siblings, David (Janice), Anita (Larry), Michael and Steven (Lynn) and many nieces, nephews; best friend for years, John (Vi) Shuey.
The family will have a Celebration of Ray's Life on Sunday, December 31, 2017 from 1-6:00 p.m. at American Legion Post #646, 1074 Clarion Ave., Holland, OH 43528.
