Randy J. Young

December 2, 1955 — April 28, 2023

Randy J. Young, age 67, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday, April 28, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, with loving family by his side. He was born on December 2, 1955 to Rodney and Verna (Wolfer) Young in Hamburg, New York. The family later moved to Trenton, Michigan where Randy graduated from Trenton High School in 1974. Shortly after graduation, he began his 30+ year career at Ford Motor Company, where he retired from the Maumee Stamping Plant in 2007. During this time, he met his forever love, Cindy. They have been married since July 26, 1991.

Randy was a lifelong sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines. He was a baseball stud through high school and continued playing softball into his early 30s. His real love, however, was golf. Randy enjoyed playing courses all around the country with family and friends. He also enjoyed a game of pool or shuffleboard (aka horse pucky) at The Break Room Lounge. Though Randy was quite fond of a quiet evening at home, he was a regular traveler, enjoying peaceful vacations in the mountains, camping, multiple trips to the Kentucky Derby, and he especially loved traveling to warm, sunny beaches with a good cabana bar!

Randy had so much love for all of his fur babies. You may have heard him gripe about his furry friends or state that he and Cindy were never getting another dog, but for over 30 years, Randy always welcomed home a new pup or rescue. He had special bonds with all of his goldens: Gordon, Ozzie, Hazard, Bogey, Chance, and even Miss Sassy Sandy.

Randy was a quiet and reserved man, but he was always quick to offer a sarcastic comment or joke. In fact, that was the sure-tale way he showed his love and affection for those he cared about most. Randy was a valiant fighter, persevering through so many heartbreaking losses of those he loved and battling numerous medical diagnoses throughout his lifetime. Despite all of his own trials, Randy always wanted to help and give back to those in need. For the last several years, he requested that all birthday, Christmas, and Father's Day gifts be in the form of donations to others less fortunate. He demonstrated this giving nature in his final act, being an organ donor, giving hope to someone else's loved one.

Left to cherish Randy's memory are his loving wife of 32 years, Cindy, daughters, Lisa (Nick Hartman) Lorenz and Heather Gill-Hoenig; grandson, Tylor; siblings, Rhonda Bloomfield and Ron (Laurie) Young; sister-in-law, Valerie Young; brother-in-law, Jon (Carol) Nissen; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Randi Jean Young; brother, Ricky Young; and brother-in-law, David Bloomfield.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio (419-381-1900) with Memorial Services beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
