Rafael Tapia of Waterville, Ohio passed away unexpectedly with his wife and family by his side, June 28, 2023. Son of the late Rafael and Emma (Garza) Tapia. Beloved husband of 30 years to Connie (Barboza) Tapia. Cherished father of Humberto "Beto" Tapia of McAllen, TX, Heriberto "Eddie" (Judy) Tapia of San Juan, TX, Alberto (Mona Lisa) Tapia of San Benito, TX, Oneida Salamanca of Pleasanton, TX, Jennifer (Bel) Baskey of Toledo, OH, and Michael (Danielle) Baskey of Maumee, OH. Adored grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 9. Brother of Martha (Ricardo) Valdez, Gloria (the late Arturo) Trevino, and Irasema (the late Hector) Garza.
He retired after 30 years at American National Can as a loading dock supervisor. Rafael spent time camping with his wife, Connie, they would spend their summers in Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Ohio. He enjoyed fishing for salmon, gambling and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Michigan Wolverines. Rafael was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for over 20 years, where he made and entertained many close friends. When the grandkids were in town, Rafael looked forward to sharing his cooking skills to feed them Mexican cuisine; and even gave them cooking lessons. Rafael was known for his pinto beans. He enjoyed conversations with his grandkids and especially Facetiming them in Texas.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614.
Rafael's funeral ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home at 4752 Heatherdown Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614.
Rafael will be laid to rest at a later date.
