Phyllis D. Toney, age 83, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at her home with her family by her side. She was born July 27th, 1926 to Frank and Hilda (Lane) Apple in Berlin, Pennsylvania. Phyllis graduated from Reade Township Mountaindale High School, Class of 1944, during which she excelled in basketball. She went on to become a Registered Nurse and worked at Western Reserve Psychiatric Hospital for 18 years retiring in 1986. Phyllis moved to Washington D.C. where she was employed as a personal secretary to General Eisenhower. While she was in Washington, Phyllis met and married the love of her life, Bob Toney and together they raised 5 children. Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and participated in the Teamsters Retirees, heading up the St. Jude Charity. She also enjoyed working at the Jamie Farr Golf Classic.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Toney; uncle, Bernie W. Lane and son-in-law, Tim Kehring. She is survived by her loving children, Paul (Linda) Toney of Mesa, AZ; Earl (Christine Nagy) Toney of Toledo, OH; Penny (Gary) Hamberg of New Carlisle, OH; Rob (Vicky) Toney of Toledo, OH and Ruth Kehring of Akron, OH; grandchildren, Melody, Matt, Trevor and Theron and their mother, Marlene Thomas and Brandon; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 4-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Phyllis was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to all. She was the most generous and kind hearted person there was and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
