Philip Burgess

Philip D. Burgess was born August 10, 1928 in Belize City, Belize. He was the eldest of five children born to Zeta Burns and Clinton Burgess. He passed away Monday, July 20, 2015 at Advanced Health Care.

While residing in Belize City Philip was a carpenter and fisherman. Philip enjoyed building and being on the ocean. Philip was jack-of-all-trades, and he enjoyed working on cars. It was important to him to stay busy at all times. He enjoyed preparing his Belizean food. He loved to share his life experiences and his many adventures when he was younger.

Philip came to the United States in 1969. He officially became a citizen of the United States in 1999. Philip and his wife Dorothy had four children to their union. Philip was employed with Hunts Wesson for more than 20 years.

Philip leaves to cherish his memory wife, Dorothy J. Burgess; children Clinton Burgess of Brooklyn, NY, Norman Burgess of Long Island, NY, Sandra Lipscomb-Burgess of San Diego, CA, Phillipa Burgess of New York, NY, Mark Burgess of Belize City, Belize, Phyllis (Colin) Marfil of Atlanta Ga, Rosie Jones of Detroit, MI, Marvin (LaTonya) Burgess, Shurita Burgess, Shawn Burgess and Tyrone Burgess all of Toledo, Ohio. Brother Eric Dyer of Bronx, NY, Wilfur Dyer of Belize City, Belize; 47 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by son, Dennis McGee.

The family will receive guests, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
