Percy Phillip Peeples
Percy P. Peeples, age 85 of Toledo passed away Saturday, December 6, 2003 in his home. He was born February 7, 1918 to Cawthon C. and Lucy (Miree) Peeples in Bessemer, Alabama. Percy married his wife, Lila in June of 1949 in Bessemer, AL. They then moved to Toledo in 1968 with their family and Percy began working with the Baron Drawn Steel Co., retiring after 19 years. Percy was a member of the Men's Chorus, Usher Board and Trustee of the United Church of God for many years. He was also a WWII U.S. Army Veteran receiving 2 bronze stars.
In addition to his parents, Percy was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Clarence and Cawthon, Jr. Peeples and sister, Zora Treadwell. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Lila B. (Johnson); children, Phillip (Gloria) Peeples; John (Silvy) Peeples; Diane Anderson; Cynthia (John) Alloway; Raymond (Beatrice) Peeples and Tamatha Peeples; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 1 Godchild, Chiquitta Patterson.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300.) Family hour will be Saturday from 10-11:00 a.m. in the First Church of God, 3016 Collingwood Blvd. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Officiating will be Rev. David O'Dell. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the United Church of God Scholarship Fund, 1122 Bronson Ave. Toledo, Ohio 43608 in Percy's name.
