Pearline M. Kemp

Pearline Mae Kemp, age 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, September 13, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Solomon and Lillie Smaw on February 14, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio. In the early 1950"s she attended Davis Business College and later joined the United States Air Force (Woman's Air Core) and was stationed in Texas. After leaving the United States Air Force she returned to Toledo, Ohio where she met her future husband, William S. Kemp who was in the United States Coast Guard and were married in Hawaii. While living in Hawaii she found a church to attend.

Later she move to Cape Cod and it was while she was there she received her GED from Lawrence High School and found another church to attend. After 5yrs on the Cape they returned to Toledo, Ohio where she and her husband became member of Bethel Apostolic Church.

Not to diminish her working at Chrysler's Perrysburg Plant, her main focus was on helping others. Because of her love for God and the church she formed a church group called the Helping Hands in order to help those in need, worked at Rescue Crisis Toledo, Ohio. Later, she was called into the ministry and became an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World where she was one of three that passed the ordination test on the first try in Toledo. She later became pastor of The Church of God Apostolic and rebuilt/remodeled the whole building, adding restroom, offices and extended the edifice. She was also elevated to the position of Superintendent Emeritus over the state of Ohio.

Pearline attended both Lourdes College and the University of Toledo while raising a family, pastoring and being a grandma. She received a degree in accounting and while in her 70's attained her Bachelor Degree in Psychology. Pearline was also a licensed CPE Chaplain. Pearline was also an excellent seamstress having her own labels, and also loved playing the piano.

Pearline was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Lillie Smaw; brothers, Big Six, Emanuel, Hezekiah, Wilbur and Robert; sisters, Bernice and Helen. Left to cherish her memory are her, brother, Dr. Philip Smaw, of Memphis; sons, William Crider, Eduard Kemp, and Eric Kemp; and daughter, Tina Kemp; grandkids, Dana Allee, William Crider III, Sarah Hall, Jonathan Kemp Gary, and Pearlina Kemp, six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive guests on Sunday, September 19th, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43617. Funeral Services will begin Monday, September 20th, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd., Toledo, OH 43617. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
