Paul R. Sprouse, age 84, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, January 29th, 2009 at The Toledo Hospital. He was born August 3rd, 1924 to Thomas and Louisa (Leisure) Sprouse in Collier, Pennsylvania. Paul's boyhood years were spent in West Virginia. His first job was at Glen L. Martin Aircraft at the age of 17. In 1942 Paul came to Toledo and worked at Liberty Highway. He entered the U.S. Navy that same year and served in the South Pacific for 27 months and was discharged in 1945 Paul returned to Toledo and worked as a welder for both National Supply and Art Iron. He retired from Owens Illinois in 1985 after 20 years in craft services. He met his loving and caring wife, Blanche in 1950 and they married in 1952. Paul was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and the Golden Emblem Club. He enjoyed most sports, especially golf, bowling, and he also enjoyed working with stained glass.
Along with his wife Blanche, Paul is survived by his son, Allen Sprouse; grandson, Brandon Sprouse and brother, Charles Sprouse and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
The family will receive guests Saturday from 2-5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The Sprouse family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staffs of the HOA Cancer Center in Lambertville and the Oncology & Infusion Center at Toledo Hospital for the loving care and support that they provided.
