Patricia Claire Guzman

Patricia Claire (Riker) Guzman, age 73, passed away on Saturday, March 05, 2016 at St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg, OH. Patricia was born on August 14, 1942, to James Johnson and Florence Reilly Johnson in Somerville, New Jersey. At the age of 18, she was wed to PFC Robert C. Riker in Plainfield, New Jersey. PFC Riker died at the age of 27. She then remarried to Gilbert Guzman, a Vietnam Veteran, of Toledo, Ohio. Patricia was born, raised, and died a committed Catholic. She spent her life raising children and later, her grandchildren. In doing so, she would work off their Catholic school tuition by serving as a lunch and recess lady at the former St. James Catholic Grade School in Toledo, where she was also a parishioner. Once St. James Parish closed, she joined Immaculate Conception Parish. Patricia remained active in the Catholic Church through the Sylvania Sisters of St. Francis (SOSF) Guild. The ladies met for prayer and social time with the SOSF. They raised the funds for part of the organ in Queen of Peace Chapel and the outdoor Stations in the cemetery. They worked with the Sisters to share the Franciscan spirit. Patricia, also, worked in housekeeping at Darlington House in Toledo.

She lovingly took on the responsibility of raising her two grandsons, Brandon and Dylan from birth through adulthood. Patricia is survived by her children, Martha (Kim) Bednarsky-Decker, Robert Riker, Barbara (William) Besancon, Dr. Gregory (Jennifer) Guzman, Gilbert C. Guzman, and Leilani Guzman; sisters, Betsy (Eddie) Wolenski and Nancy Colombaroni; her close and dear cousins, Kathleen and Bill Miller; and her grandchildren, Shawna Getzinger, Luis Sanchez, Miranda Robertson, Courtney Besancon, Caiden Guzman, Brandon Guzman, Dylan (Lydia) Guzman, Rihanna Guzman, and Armani Guzman.

Friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900) on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 5 – 8:00p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held the next morning, Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 434 Western Ave. at 9:30a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
