Norman W. Schroeder, age 95, passed away on April 24, 2016. He was born on March 10, 1921 to the late Theresa and William Schroeder in Detroit, Michigan.
Norm graduated in 1939 at the top of his class from Dearborn High School. He entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. Norm followed Patton's Army with the 961st Engineer Corps throughout Europe. The most important event in his life however, was meeting the love of his life, Alice, at Kaiser Motors where they both worked. They were married on February 14, 1948 and together had two daughters. Norm retired as Manager Cost Accountant after 37 years with the company. Following a heart attack, he took up running. Over the course of his lifetime, Norm ran over 20,000 miles.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 68 years, Alice; daughters, Sandy Saunders and Debbie Schroeder; sister, Vivian (Bill) Rosnyai; grandchildren, Justin Lockrey, Dan, Nick and Scott Saunders; great-grandchildren, Kiley and Charlie; Army buddy, Buck Lowe. He was preceded in death by siblings, Earl, Sonny, Glen, Ruth, Violet and Lorraine.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens.
