Norman Przybysz

Norman F. "Jake" Przybysz, Jr. lovingly known as "Pa" to his family, age 86, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, August 18th at Toledo Hospital surrounded by his beloved family. Norman was a resident for the past 6 months at the Sylvania Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Toledo, on October 29, 1923 to the late Helen and Norman Przybysz Sr.

Norman was a factory worker for the Auto Lite, Willys Overland and also worked for LOF where he retired after 20 years. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1941 and excelled in sports, participating in basketball, football and baseball. After working as a pin boy for local bowling allies, Jake became an avid bowler scoring a perfect 300 game on several occasions.

Jake was a veteran of the US Navy where he served in World War II as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class. He was a member of the VFW Post 5530, and the Commodore Club.

For over 40 yrs, Jake was known throughout the state as a racing pigeon fancier. Frequently his loft would exceed 100 birds, most of which, he had raised himself. He was the recipient of many trophies, ribbons and awards for his racing pigeons. He was a member and former Secretary of the Elm Pigeon Club for nearly 25 years.

Norman was preceded in death by his mother and father, and loving wife, Eleanor, on June 30th, 2010. Norman and Eleanor were married in Toledo, Ohio in 1947 and celebrated 63 years of marriage together.

Surviving is his son, Bob "Jake" Przybysz, (Kathy), daughter, Jacqueline Barnes, son-in-law, Warren; grandchildren, Dr's Julie Jarvis (Blair), Jennifer Sullins, Kelly Quay, Mark Przybysz (Debbie Sue) and Amanda Boyer (David) and Tori Stevenson; great grandchildren, Kirsten, Charley, Taylor, Jack, Gage, Hayden and Raven. Also surviving is his beloved sister, Alice Bocian (Roland), sister- in- law Rose Ford (Herb) as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. on Monday, August 23, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Northwood VFW Post #2984 will provide prayer and honor guard services at 7:00 p.m. Final Prayers will be recited Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Regina Coeli Catholic Church.

The family requests prayers in his memory and extends great appreciation for the loving care from the medical staff of Toledo Hospital, Sylvania Care and Rehabilitation Center and the services of Hospice of NW Ohio. Memorials made be made to the Hospice of NW Ohio in his memory.
