Nola Ann Johnson

September 15, 1930 — May 13, 2021

Nola Ann Johnson, age 90, of Berkey, OH passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania. She was born September 15, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama to Ralph and Ida (Taylor) Hoffman. Nola grew up in Fairhope, Alabama and met and married the love of her life, Dale E. Johnson of Iowa, on July 10, 1948. Shortly after marrying they moved to Washington DC where Dale began his military career. Nola and Dale called many places home throughout the years but Toledo became their family's final nesting place. It was here that she began waitressing and bartending; working at the Log Cabin and then settling in at the Branding Iron Restaurant where she spent her next 20+ years.

Nola and Dale enjoyed traveling all around the US; visiting family, celebrating the holidays in Iowa and Alabama or vacationing in many beautiful areas. Not only did she enjoy fishing and bird watching during these travels but also well into her later years. Her daughter recalls one family trip after her brothers were off and married, where her and her mother collected rocks from each stop on their drive out west. Despite weighing the car down on the drive home they became a beautiful example of things she cherished; adorning the bird bath at home. Her grandkids will easily recall all the state magnets they could play with on the fridge when they came over for a visit as well. After she lost the love of her life, Nola was introduced to the Monroe County Homemakers Extension Association where she became a member and proudly volunteered her next 10 years of free time. It was here that she was able to help out her community and create lifelong friendships with other wonderful women.

Hands down, she will forever be remembered for her love of baking and cooking. Her pies and cookies were easily the favorites of her entire family. Nola often shared with a wink and a grin a little story about her first attempt at baking a pie, causing the room to erupt in laughter. She felt beyond blessed to have created such a kind and loving family. Her excitement to be a part of all of their lives was nurtured grandchild by grandchild. Nola truly cherished the time they spent together as it was always filled with love and laughter. She was a proud wife, mother and grandmother, lovingly called "Bam-maw" and "Grandma Nola" by her precious great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Nola was also preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 52 years, Dale Johnson; sons, Tom and Jeff Johnson; brothers, Bill and Ralph Hoffman and brother-in-law, Teddie Council. She is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver, Tammy (Ken) Robinson; daughters-in-law, Barb and Netter Johnson and sister, Betty Council; grandchildren, Joel (Kim) Johnson, Jeremy (Kathy) Johnson, Scott (Lydia) Cornett, Jobe Johnson, Cassie (Steve) Mynihan, Wayne (Julia) Cornett, Nikki (Tom) Neiswender, Steven Robinson and Jacklin (William) Yeager; loving step grandchildren, Wendy Robinson, Bill (Jen) Robinson, Wyla (Dennis) Brown and Wayne (Cathy) Robinson; 26 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friend, Diana Poole.

The family will receive guests Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 10am-12pm at Newcomer, WS Chapel, 3655 King Rd. (419-392-9500). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial following at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
