Nina Cecelia Houghton, a cherished soul, left this world on February 11, 2025, joining her beloved mother, Nadji, in Heaven. She departed from a life that began on March 22, 1954, in Merced, California. Her presence was like a comforting quilt, stitched together with years of love and devotion.
Nina worked for over 20 years as an office manager at Saylor's, after retiring she was a dedicated caregiver to her parents. She was a graduate of Whitmer High School and spent time in Cambridge, England, where she was part of a rowing team.
She loved knitting, scrapbooking, and she cherished her weekend retreats with the Croknitsters. She was a very talented seamstress, creating clothing for all of her loved ones, including two of her sister's wedding dresses.
Nina was, above all, a family person. Her heart overflowed with love for her parents, LeRoy and Nadji, and her siblings—Christina (Scott) Reynolds, Liana (Michael) Bomar, Trista (Mark) Young, and her brother, Royce (Michele "Sissy") Houghton. She was an unwavering source of support and guidance, not only for them but also for her ten nieces and nephews. For her nine great-nieces and great-nephews, she represented a grandmother's warmth. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, embracing the special bonds she formed with her step-daughters, Stephanie (Kimble) McLean and Julie Kimble, as well as her bonus sisters, Anne Leitnick and Pamela Dixon. Nina’s circle of love encompassed her aunt, Kayren (Houghton) Campbell, who was more like a sister to Nina and her siblings. She also leaves behind her three cousins, each of whom hold cherished memories of the joy she brought into their lives.
