Nicholas L. "Nick" Monica, Jr., age 76, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was born on February 4, 1944 to Nicholas Sr. and Mary (Besase) Monica in Toledo, OH. Nick began his Catholic education at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral and soon after moving to West Toledo he started the 6th grade at St. Clement Catholic Parish. Nick went on to graduate from Whitmer High School in 1962. While in school he played football all four years and also ran track. He went on to obtain his degree from the University Of Toledo College Of Business and later his Bachelor's Degree for Education.
After college, Nick coached Jefferson Junior High football for 8th and 9th graders. He taught at St. Michael's, Whitney Vocational and Bowsher High School, where he headed the first DECA program. Nick also worked at RCA and became the sales manager of the year. He was the owner of Minuteman Patrol Security Co. for over 10 years.
Nick was football fan, especially of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Michigan Wolverines. He was an avid golfer; even having a hole in one at the U.T. hole in one golf contest where he won $1000.00. Nick's love of golf was evident, having passed it on to both his son and daughter. Some of his favorite memories were playing golf with his son and daughter together. Nick loved spending time with his children, and his smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish Nick's memory are his son, Jason (Chrissy) Monica; daughter, Annelisa Monica; step-son, Cameron Walker; grand dog, Odin; grandchildren, Jesse and Jude Walker; and Jasmine Parker and Anna Tertel; siblings, Frank (Nita) Monica, Tana (Dan) Snyder, and Mike (Christine) Monica; nephews and niece, Michael Monica, Charles (Amber) Monica, and Janae Crawford Monica; great-nephew, Nicholas Monica; former spouses, Karen Weller and Sheila Monica; lifelong best friends, Mike Wray and Charlie Helmick; and many other cousins and dear friends.
At this time there will be no visitation for Nick. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, Toledo (419-473-0300) assisted the family with professional services.
