Nathan D. Hennessey

September 3, 1944 — October 7, 2022

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Nathan "Dale" Hennessey of Toledo, Ohio, on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the age of 78. Dale was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who dedicated his entire life to the happiness of his family.

Dale was born in Jenkins, Kentucky on September 3, 1944, to father Harry and mother Valda and later gained three sisters and two brothers. He loved to tell the story about the town he grew up in which had only one road (which the first stoplight was installed in the 2000s), how his grandma would feed bobcats out of the backdoor and other far fetched tales including chupacabras and boogie hills. Dale served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. He loved riding his motorcycles with his MC, fishing, and getting a nice arm workout in with all of those scratch off tickets. The only thing he did not do in life (though not for lack of trying) is make an appearance on Cash Explosion.

If you asked Dale, his greatest accomplishment wasn't his time serving his country, the miles put on his motorcycle or all those fish he brought home for dinner but the family he built. Dale met the love of his life Sandra on a chance encounter when he moved to Ohio to be with family. They have been inseparable for 56 years. That love grew to include their two sons, Ricky and Randy, with whom they shared their love of motorcycles and the great outdoors.

Their boys grew up and turned into fathers themselves which is when Nana and Papa came to be. Dale was truly meant to be a Papa. There was no greater joy to his life than his grandkids and great grandkids. Nana and Papa's home was always filled with love and laughter because that's where all of the grandkids always wanted to be. As they grew up, he always knew what was going on in each of their lives and always checked in, making sure they knew how much they were loved.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Harry, Valda and step father Jonah, sister Sue, as well as his son, Ricky. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son Randy; grandchildren, Stephanie, Terra, Jessica, Justin (wife Lauren), Joshua, and Tiffany (husband Nathan); and great-grandchildren Brailynn, Damian, Bryson, Josiah, Brioni, Isaac, Isaiah and Isabel; and siblings Martha (husband James, SR), Teresa (husband Scott), Ramona, Jonah (wife Caroline), Charles (wife Ayah); grandpuppies and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dale was not only a friend but a Papa to all who knew him. Some have even called him the Mayor of Gibbons St.

A memorial ceremony is planned for Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 11 to 2pm. The ceremony will be at Holy Trinity Day Nursery, 1825 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH. All are invited to attend to share memories and enjoy the presence of Dale's beloved family.
