Mrs. Easter Smoot, age 81, of Toledo, longtime resident of Natchez, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Ebeid Hospice Residence. She was born on January 7, 1942 to Odell Smith and Williams James Phillips in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi. Easter worked for many years as a dietary aide before retiring. She was a longtime member of Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Easter loved to sew, dance and listen to music. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening. Her greatest passion was her family, she loved nothing more than being a grandmother. Easter's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Anthony Smoot, Samauria Lindsay and Anton Ford Jr.; son, Charles Smoot; sister, Theresa Link; and brothers, Sammy Lee, Willie James, Bilbo Smith, Lionell Smith, L.T. Smith and Tommy Lee.
Left to cherish Easter's memory are her husband, Joseph Jackson; sisters, Marry Williams and Jackie Smith; brother, Jerry (Quella) Smith; children, Louise Smoot, Ernest Ray Phillips, Debra Ann Smoot, Norman Smoot, Lavonne Smoot, Willie Smoot, and Delia (James Dunmore) Smoot; step-son, Joseph Jackson, Jr.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 416 Belmont Ave., Toledo, OH 43604 with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 a.m. in church.
