Moises Pacheco, Sr., age 57, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1951 to Raymond and Alicia (Martinez) Pacheco in San Antonio, Texas, with his family moving to Toledo when he was an infant. Moises graduated from Woodward High School where he helped establish a chapter of the Brown Berets, an organization that was instrumental in helping Latino students in the Toledo Public School system. He also played football and was on the swimming and wrestling teams. Moises was a Lucas County Deputy Sheriff and retired after 34 dedicated years of service. He was a co-founder and member of the National Latino Police Officers Association, Toledo chapter. He was instrumental in introducing M.E.B.A. to the Sheriff's Office, to help unionize deputies. As a Lucas County Deputy Sheriff, he was very committed in helping the Latino community by opening doors to allow other Latino officers to follow in his footsteps. As a Lucas County Deputy Sheriff, he was an extraordinary officer that allowed him to accomplish and earn many awards. He also volunteered his services to organizations such as, S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Old News Boys Association, Cherry Street Mission and the Lucas County Democratic Party to name a few. Moises was an avid fisherman and sportsman. He was a University of Michigan football fan and also coached elementary football and softball in the Toledo area. Moises was a caring, loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Moises is survived by his loving wife, Mable, of 24 years; parents, Raymond, Sr. and Alicia; children, Moises, Jr. (Jenny), Rachel (Daniel), Alejandro, Vernon, April, Matthew, Tina (Jerry) and Anthony; brother, Raymond, Jr. (Tina) and Edward (Teresa); sisters, Alicia (Melvin), Gloria (Paul), Linda (Oswaldo), Rosario and Maria Luisa (Gregory); 11 grandchildren; 24 nieces and nephews; 3 great nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cecilia, brothers, David and Juan, niece, Marisol, nephew, Jamie, grandson, Anthony Skyler and brother-in-laws, Robert and Wayne.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 5 – 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from
2 – 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300), with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. A Prayer Service will begin Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 728 S. St. Clair St., Toledo. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
