Missouri Blugh, age 101, passed away, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Lake Park Nursing Home. She was born January 12, 1907 to James and Lillie (Wilde) Kelley in Lake Providence, Louisiana. Missouri was employed with St. Vincent Hospital, retiring after 30 years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother, godmother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Missouri was also a longtime member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and active on the Mother's Board. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her elegance, fashion savvy, cooking, kindness, fun and loving youthful spirit and her caring ways with people and animals.
In addition to her parents, Missouri was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Blugh and several siblings. She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia (Jonathan) Jones of Torrance, CA; 6 generations of grandchildren; a host of godchildren; sisters, Lillie M. Mitchell of Saginaw, MI and Mabel Towers of Ruston, LA; brothers, Ozia B. Kelley and Joseph Kelley both of Stockton, CA; life-long friend and caregiver, Mrs. Ida Bell Turner; special godchildren and caregivers, Linda Turner and Wilbert Turner and a host of nieces, nephews; extended family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests Friday from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) and Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 831 N. Detroit Ave. Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Cedric Brock. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
