Mildred C. Swisher-Bortel

Mildred C. Swisher Bortel, age 97, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2016. She was born on November 6, 1918 to the late Mary and Frank Jacobs in Toledo, Ohio.
Millie worked at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Hospital in the coffee shop for several years. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting, doing ceramics and playing the organ. Millie lived in Vero Beach, Florida for 33 years before moving back to Toledo. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends at Swan Pointe.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary (Paul) Seitz, Gary (Oetta) Swisher, Paul (Emily) Swisher and Wayne Swisher; step-children, Brad and Bernie Bortel; brother, Eddie (Carol) Jacobs; 34 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and other family members. Millie was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Swisher Sr.; second husband, Alvin Bortel; son, Robert Swisher Jr.; siblings, Francis Jacobs, Sr. Lucille Jacobs, Bernadette Bona, Joseph Jacobs and Thomas Jacobs; three grandchildren.
The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
