Michael James Kozak age 62, passed away December 23, 2014 peacefully in his home. Mike was born to the late Patricia (Kohler) and James Kozak in Toledo Ohio. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his nephew Bobby Raczko. Mike attended St. Catherine's grade school in West Toledo and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1970. Mike was a gifted athlete who excelled in almost every sport. His passion was boxing and quite naturally with his abilities, determination and training from Mr. Buddy Carr, Mike excelled in Golden Gloves Boxing and was a champion boxer for several years.
Mike's career led him to the Merchant Marines where he spent the majority of his working years traveling and seeing the world. His return visits home were filled with stories of the places he had been and, quite naturally for Mike, to those who knew him, fascinating stories of the adventures he had experienced and interesting people he had encountered.
Now gone from this world in body, memories of his reckless smile, his determined spirit and extraordinary life adventures and experiences will live on with his friends and those who loved him and to whom he always exhibited a great amount of love, loyalty, generosity and respect.
The family will receive guests from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday January 17 at St. Catherine of Sienna church at 4555 North Haven Avenue. The funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. Friends and family will gather after the ceremony for luncheon in the community room at the church.
