With memories to last us a lifetime, and with sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of our loving father and husband, devoted son, caring and compassionate brother, and fun-loving uncle, Michael Scott Boratyn. Mike was born on December 7, 1968, at Toledo Hospital, and he took his last breath on December 5, 2024 at St. Anne’s Hospital.
Mike spent his years in Toledo, where he was born to Christine (Labiak) and Daniel Boratyn. He grew up in a loving family with his older sister Sherri and his younger brother Randy. Many memories were made on car trips to Disney, Myrtle Beach, Frankenmuth, and of course, The University of Notre Dame. Mike was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School in Sylvania, as well as St. Francis deSales High School. He had a strong interest and a great talent in bowling and attended Moorehead State University on a Bowling Scholarship.
Following his days at Moorehead State, he returned home to Toledo where he continued his enjoyment for bowling, as well as taking on a new golf hobby. He enjoyed the sport so much that he started his job in The Tamaron Country Club Golf Pro Shop in 1992 and continued working at Tamaron for over 10 years. Tamaron Country Club also held a special place in Mike’s heart because that is where he met his wife of 25 years, Rhonda. Together they raised their two sons, Nick and Josh, creating memories that will live in their hearts forever.
From golf and bowling, to making some amazing fried potatoes and banana bread, Mike had some pretty impressive talents! But come every Saturday during football season, Mike stopped everything when he heard that Notre Dame fight song coming from the TV, signaling that kick-off was minutes away. “HERE COME THE IRISH!” was often heard in the Boratyn house. And even though he enjoyed his hobbies and his ND games, his biggest enjoyment came from his sons, Nick and Josh. They were, without a single doubt, his greatest joy. His heart overflowed with pride for both of them. The love they gave him, he gave back to them ten-fold. Mike was so blessed to be their Dad.
Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents Ollie and Martha Labiak, and Walter and Virginia Boratyn. He is survived by his wife Rhonda (Kleinert) Boratyn; his sons Nicklaus Boratyn (Anastasia) and Joshua Boratyn; his parents Dan and Chris (Labiak) Boratyn; his siblings Sherri (Dave) Custer, Randy (Kristin) Boratyn; and nieces MaKayla Custer and Jennifer Boratyn; and nephews Johnathan Boratyn, Joseph Boratyn, Jase Albert, and Cole Albert.
The family would like to thank everyone in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Anne’s Hospital. The care and kindness shown to all was exceptional. The Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike’s honor to his Alma Mater, St. Francis DeSales High School.
