Michael "Mik" Xavier Gonzales, 60, passed away on February 23, 2025, in Perrysburg, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on July 15, 1964, in Toledo, Ohio, Mik lived a life filled with passion, devotion, and a deep love for those around him. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, and then went on to the Specs Howard School of Broadcasting. Mik retired from Toledo Hospital after 30 plus years. He went on to broadcast countless sports events all over the country. He was passionate about broadcasting and loved his Toledo Cherokee hockey family.
Mik was a man who embraced life wholeheartedly. He found joy in the thrill of hockey, the excitement of wrestling, and the intensity of football - always cheering on his favorite teams with unwavering enthusiasm. But beyond his love for sports, he was a man of great heart, always making time for his family and friends, whom he cherished above all else.
At the center of his world was his beloved wife, Candi Lakes. Their love was a true partnership - filled with laughter, adventure, and an unbreakable bond. Through life's ups and downs, Mik's greatest happiness was found in the love he shared with her and the life they built together. Together they grew in their love of the Lord. Mik always said he did not mind death because he knew where he was going, he was going to be with the Lord and those that passed before him, his parents, Antonia (Roldan) Gonzales and Jesse Gonzales, and his sisters, Mary Louise Gonzales and Theresa Gonzales. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Angela Deiter and Kathy Gonzales; nephews, Alexander Gonzales, Antonio Gonzales, Dylan Deiter, and Brendan Deiter; great-nephews, Brendan Rood, Alec Gonzales, Xavier Gonzales, Bronson Deiter; and great-nieces, Bela Gonzales, Scarlett Gonzales, Arianna Gonzales, and Malia Deiter. Mik's warm spirit, infectious humor, and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though his time on this earth has come to an end, the love he gave and the memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Mik's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor his incredible spirit. In his memory, the family encourages everyone to embrace life with passion, cherish the people they love, and never miss a chance to share a smile.
Rest in peace, Michael. You will never be forgotten.
