Michael E. Flannagan, 64, passed from this life, Tuesday afternoon surrounded by his loving wife of 31 years, Sherry, his children, sister and brother in-law and best friends Ron & Marie Wiener, following his battle with cancer.
Easy to laugh, Mike was known for his sense of humor, his warm smile and his ability to fix anything with a motor. A Mopar-man he raced cars in his youth, but in his later years he preferred Red Wings Hockey. Growing up on Toledo's East Side, he graduated from Waite High School and worked for Chrysler before joining the Lucas County Sheriffs Department in 1972. Later, Mike worked 13 years for the Lucas County Port Authority Police, Fire & Rescue, retiring in 1997. While working at the Port Authority Police, Mike was on the Drug Task Force Unit.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory, wife Sherry; children, Michael (Brooke) Flannagan, Heather (Phil) Kessler, Matthew (Robin) Shepherd, Joshua Flannagan; sisters, Sandy (Dave) Darascavage, Janet (Tim) Wollet and 7 grandchildren and the love of his life, granddaughters, Madelyn, Addison and Aubree Shepherd, that he was honored in helping care for the last 9 years and they affectionately called him "Pa." He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
The family will receive guests on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd. Final interment will follow at Springfield Township Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
