Michael J. Cunningham, affectionately known as Mike, was born on October 28, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio. He passed away unexpectedly in his hometown on February 16, 2025. Mike was a devoted family man and cherished by many for his infectious spirit and love for life.
For over 39 years, Mike dedicated his professional career to Reiter Automotive, now known as Autoneum. During his time there, he demonstrated a remarkable versatility, taking on multiple roles, including that of a shipping coordinator. His commitment to excellence and teamwork left a lasting impression on his colleagues.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike found joy in coaching youth football, where he dedicated his time from 1989 to 2000 to the Reynolds Corners Redskins. His passion for sports brought him closer to the community and provided countless memorable moments for the young athletes he guided.
Mike had a vibrant personality, notorious for being a bit ornery, a trait that those who knew him cherished. He was an avid fan of both Ohio State and the New York Yankees, and his witty banter, punctuated by a favorite saying that the family has chosen to keep to themselves, was well-known among family and friends.
A true hobbyist at heart, Mike had a talent for fixing things around the house, often being his own worst critic. He loved tinkering with the latest tech gadgets, from automatic lights to smart plugs. One of his proudest achievements was building an incredible Tiki Bar at his home, a favorite gathering spot for family and friends. His grilling and BBQ skills were unmatched, and many fondly remember the wonderful meals shared in his company.
Traveling was another passion of Mike’s, and he enjoyed accompanying his wife, Angela, on adventures across the country. Married for 26 wonderful years, they created a life filled with laughter and cherished memories. Mike would light up whenever he spoke about his family, proudly sharing tales of his children: Michael P. Cunningham and his wife Kristy, Brett Cunningham and his girlfriend Abby Crosby, and his step-sons Derrick Sanchez and his wife Jennifer, and Salvador Sanchez and his wife Emily. He was a doting grandfather to his beloved grandchildren: Izabella, Paul, Crosby, Brady, Ian, Preston, Kaleigh, Dominic, and Maci.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Cunningham, and father, Jimmie Lee Cunningham Sr.. He is survived by his loving wife, Angela, his children and their families, as well as his brother, Jimmie Cunningham Jr. and his wife Hilda, his sister, Vicki Miners and her husband Todd, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
