Michael "Mike" Costilla, a beloved member of the Toledo community, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 10, 2025, at the age of 56. Born on February 24, 1969, in Toledo, Ohio, Mike lived a life filled with laughter, love, and hard work, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him.
Mike attended Woodward High School, graduating in the class of 1987. He continued his education at Owens Community College, where he earned his associate's degree in Applied Science. Following his educational pursuits, he joined Libbey Glass, where he dedicated twenty-five years of service as a master tradesman, ultimately retiring on August 5, 2024. Mike will be remembered for his professionalism and skill in the trade.
Beyond his career, Mike was known for his vibrant personality. He had a unique ability to light up any room he entered, bringing joy and laughter to family gatherings, especially when "Mexican Mike" would make an appearance. A natural entertainer, Mike was often the life of the party, making everyone feel welcomed and valued. His kindness and selflessness were apparent in the way he spoiled those he cared about, always thinking of others before himself.
Mike's interests reflected his spirited nature. He was a passionate Michigan football fan and looked forward to tailgating parties with friends and family. His love for gaming brought him great joy, particularly through his time spent on his PlayStation. Through these activities, he created countless memories that will be cherished by his loved ones.
Family was the center of Mike's world. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shawne Costilla, with whom he shared twenty-four wonderful years. He was a proud father to his sons, Eddie Soto, Johnny Soto and his wife Rashell, and was deeply bonded with his son Shaun Kelley and his wife Chasity. Mike's legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren: Kamren Kelley, Keaton Kelley, Coleston Kelley, Connor Soto, Raelynn Soto, and Trevor Grandowicz. The special bond he had with his father, Eloy Costilla, and the pride he felt for his sons were among his proudest accomplishments.
Mike is also survived by his brother, Matthew Costilla, and his wife Melissa, along with his niece Alicia Costilla and nephew Matthew Costilla Jr. He leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who were fortunate to experience his warmth and generosity.
He was predeceased by his loving mother, Karen Costilla; his aunt, Eva Armour; and uncles Tony, Roy, Louie, Mike, and Raymond Costilla. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved Mike.
A visitation will take place on April 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623.
Mike Costilla leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and bring warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
