Michael Scott Askam

Michael Scott Askam, age 34, of Toledo, passed away July 30, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo after a courageous battle with sarcoma cancer. Michael was born July 18, 1987 in Toledo to Laura Patton and Scott Askam.

Mike was a 2005 graduate of Bedford High School. He worked for MTS Burgess for over 10 years. On July 6, 2012 Mike married his best friend, Jessica Gwinn at Tamaron Country Club. Together they had a beautiful daughter on December 4, 2019 which Mike cherished more than anything in the world. In addition to being a dad, he enjoyed hiking, skydiving, golfing, being outdoors, visiting the Upper Peninsula, and Civil War History. Most of all, Mike treasured the memories he made spending time with family and friends.

Mike will be remembered as a loving father, husband, son, and friend who never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a big hug.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Jessica L. Askam; daughter, Alexandria M. Askam; father, Scott E. (Sandy) Askam; mother, Laura J. Patton; bonus-dad, Pat Heck; sister, Kimberly Askam; bonus brother, Mark Stringham; bonus sisters, Misty Taylor, Mandy Lenning; nephew, James Askam; nieces, Jaclyn Thomas, Addie Blackwood, Bella Blackwood; mother-in-law, Christine Tierney; father-in-law, Brian Tierney; sister-in-law, Chelsea Blackwood; grandparents, Jim & Jody Patton and Rose Askam; and many friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Askam, and Richard & Wanda Baker.

The family will receive guests Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Jessica in Mike's memory.
