Merle G. Smith

Merle G. Smith, age 85, of Toledo, passed away November 5, 2024 at home. He was born July 28, 1939 in Tiffin, OH to Charles and Goldie Mae (Bolen) Smith. Merle served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1965. He was a Respiratory Therapist for 32 years at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1996. Merle loved to fish and go to Las Vegas to gamble, going on family house boating trips in Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. 

In addition to his parents, Merle was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Donald, Paul, Martin, Melvin and James Smith. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn J. Smith; sons, Brian (Judith) and Kelvin (Theresa) Smith; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Bridget Sniadecki, Delaney Smith, Benjamin Smith, Jessica and Ronnie Ziethlow; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Nala, Elijah, Aubrey, and Chase.

The family will receive guests Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church United Fund in Merle's memory.
