Merle Friess, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, passed away peacefully Toledo, Ohio, on December 29, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on March 10, 1955, in Toledo, Merle his entire life in the community he cherished.
Merle dedicated 33 years of his professional life to Jeep, retiring in 2008. Throughout his career, he was known as a hard worker who took great pride in providing for his family. Merle's commitment to his children, Shawn and James, was evident; he ensured they were well taken care of and instilled in them the values of hard work and determination.
Merle was known for his vibrant personality and infectious sense of humor. His loved ones will fondly remember him as a very funny man with a big heart, one who had a special affinity for animals and a playful spirit. He particularly enjoyed sharing lighthearted moments, often teasing his favorite person to pick on, Margie Larcom.
Merle's love extended deeply to his grandchildren: Austin, Terry, Kelsey, Danielle, Alex, Josh, Aiden, and Kadience, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. His pride for them was immeasurable, and he also had five great-grandchildren who added even more happiness to his family gatherings. He delighted in the simple pleasures of his favorite sweets and diet pop, which added a personal touch to the memories shared with his loved ones during family times.
He is survived by his sons Shawn Friess, along with his wife Tammy, and James Friess, accompanied by his wife Dana. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Kenny Friess and wife Jerry, sister Pearl Kasakaitas, and sister Darlene Rizor-Daily, along with her husband Jim. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who cherished him deeply.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Friess and Dora Mae Friess; his granddaughter, Kayla Friess; and siblings Pauline McGaha, Carolyn Gutierrez, and Ervin Friess. Their memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, on January 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on January 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A Funeral Service will follow on January 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM, culminating in a Graveside Service at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
Merle Friess will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his love for life, and the laughter he brought into the world. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
The family would like to especially thank First Health Hospice along with Tammy Kidwell, Margie Larcom, Josh Friess and Joseph Brown for their help and care of Merle.
