Melvin"Sonny" Spencer, age 73, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away October 29, 2016 at University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born August 7, 1943 in Minter City, Mississippi to Willy and Charlue (Rogers) Spencer.
Sonny was a veteran of the United States Army, 10th Special Forces serving as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a highly decorated officer earning several medals, including; the Silver Star, a Purple Heart, and Civil Action Unit Citations. He was also an avid car enthusiast and especially enjoyed drag racing his beloved Barracuda, aka "Sly, Slick and Wicked."
Sonny is survived by his children, Kenneth (Kira) Spencer, Sonny Spencer, Weltha Spencer and Chantel Spencer-Hansch; grandchildren, Sonny Spencer, Jr., Kylie Little, Jada Spencer, Hayden Spencer, Kendall Spencer and a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Spencer. Also surviving Sonny are his aunts, Dorothy Riven and Debra Williams and niece, Teia Spencer. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Weltha Spencer.
The family will receive guests Monday, November 7, 2016 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
