Melvin R. "Butch" Jahns, age 67, a lifelong residence of Toledo, passed away Monday, August 22nd, 2011 at St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. Butch was born February 27th, 1944 to Otto G., Sr. and Bertha E. (Spitler) Jahns in Toledo. Butch was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving in the Seabees during the Vietnam War. He served his country proudly for 4 years. Butch was employed with The University of Toledo in various capacities for 30 years. He was a quiet man that enjoyed reading, building model airplanes and spending Holidays with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Otto Jr. and George Jahns. Butch is survived by his dear siblings, Bertha Prince of Oregon, OH, Angeline (Harry) Myers of Millbury, OH, Victor (Toby) Jahns of AZ, Shirley Jahns of Toledo, Jack (Laurie) Jahns of Ft. Madison, IA, Charlotte (Fred) Frost of Dennison, OH and Russell Jahns of Las Vegas, NV. Butch is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Sandy and Harry Myers, who welcomed Butch to every Thanksgiving dinner.
At Butch's request, there will be no visitation or services.
The Family would like to thank the nurses, especially Divita at Arbors at Oregon and the Willows, Extended Care, for the loving care and support they provided for Butch during his time there.
