Melvin J. "Mel" Janowiecki, age 83 of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Otterbein Nursing Facility in Monclova. He was born on December 16, 1928 to Joseph and Helen (Banaszek) Janowiecki in Toledo. Mel attended Libbey High School and The University of Toledo. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart. Mel retired from Paben-Harlow Tool and Die in 1996 as a die maker. He was a longtime member of St. Clement Church and in his spare time enjoyed trout fishing, racing pigeons and raising beagles. Mel was also an accomplished violinist; for many years he played at St. Anthony Church for their Christmas Mass.
Mel was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather that truly loved his family and will always be remembered for his supportive nature.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly 60 years, Rosemarie Janowiecki; daughter, Karen (Tim Hoffman) Rayoum and son, James (Lisa) Janowiecki; daughter-in-law, Sharon Janowiecki; grandchildren, Wayne (Tiffany) and Brian Rayoum; Kaitlyn and Todd Janowiecki; great-grandchildren, Wayne Jr. and Warren Steel Rayoum; siblings, Venetia Glonek, Helen Marie Malezewski and Tom (Cindy) Janowiecki. Preceding Mel in death was his son, Ken Janowiecki; sisters, Christine and Pat and brother, Jerry.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 2:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement Church, 3030 Tremainsville Rd. Military Honors will take place after Mass.
Remembrances may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
