Megan Rebecca Exley

Megan Rebecca Exley of Toledo, OH has made the journey to Heaven after passing from this earth on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011. Megan was born in Milford, CT on February 21, 1976. She was a graduate of Sylvania Northview High School (1994) and the University of Michigan (cum laude 1998). Megan enjoyed Girl Scout camping, horseback riding, and crafts. She also participated in softball, basketball and cross country during her school years. Megan was very creative. She studied at the Toledo Museum of Art and was currently illustrating and cake decorating. Megan won a national art scholar competition as a teenager. She loved reading, English as her major and reporting for The Daily Newspaper at the University of Michigan.
Megan was employed for marketing and communications at the Toledo Chamber of Commerce and at the University of Toledo. She especially liked working for the Toledo Air Show events during her employment at the Chamber. Megan lived for a time in Phoenix, AZ. She loved animals and children. Megan provided a home for many kittens and cats during her lifetime and she volunteered at animal shelters. She loved her Toledo Jeep. Megan's hobbies were tea parties, gardening, reading, beading, drawing, traveling the U.S. and Europe and visiting Disney World every chance she could.
Megan is survived by her parents, Suellen and John "Ted" Exley, of Toledo; sister, Ellyn (fiancé Ron Dvorkin), of Los Angeles; uncles, William (Sally) Exley, of Florida and Gail T. Smith, of Tennessee; her fiancé, Kevin Rice, of Toledo; cousins, Darcy (Michael Schriver) Exley, Leslie (Dana) Exley Neighbor, Tara (Ron) Exley Plypick of Seattle, and Jeff (Pam) Smith and Andy (Sarah) Smith of Knoxville.
Preceding her in her journey to Heaven were her grandparents, John and Margaret Exley, Anne and Nelson Kiser, loving aunt, Connie Smith who helped guide her here on earth and now guides her path in Heaven and loving aunt Cora Exley who also welcomes her to Heaven.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 4 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will take place on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., Sylvania with visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at a later date.
The family asks that donations be made to Paws and Whiskers Cat Shelter or any animal shelter of your choice. A scholarship will be established in her memory for art education.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff and caregivers at Flower Hospital for all of their extraordinary love and care given to Megan and her family through this difficult time.
