Maxine Richardson

December 13, 1954 — May 19, 2024

Maxine Richardson, age 69, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, after losing her battle with cancer. Maxine was born on December 13, 1954, to the late Sim Kelly and Josephine (Robinson) Hill in Rayville, Louisiana. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Richardson, sister, Willie Mease Spears, nephew, Shawn Spears, and beloved friend, Yvonne Jacobs.

Left to cherish Maxine’s memories are her loving daughter & son-in-law, Yolanda & Benjamin Swain; grandchildren, Xavier, Justice, Eshe, and Ashton Swain; sisters, Ella Mae Applewhite, and Wilma Smith; brother-in-law, Clarence Spears; and a host of amazing nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Maxine moved to Toledo, OH in her early years with her sister and brother-in-law. Throughout the years Maxine was a hard worker who dedicated herself to loving her family and friends and being the voice of reasoning for everyone who had the honor of entering her life. In 1998, Maxine suffered a very traumatic on the job accident where she was burned over 70% of her body in 3rd degree burns, which in return, led her to being hospitalized for nearly half a year. Most did not expect Maxine to make it out of the hospital alive after having multiple surgeries/procedures, but GOD had other plans! During her extensive hospital stay she had to relearn how to independently complete basic living skills such as walking, feeding herself, writing, etc. She was truly a walking testimony, and you could feel her strong presence and strength in every room she entered. Maxine held the wonderful relationship between her and her daughter Yolanda very close to her heart and was such a proud grandmother to her grandchildren, who she adored.
