Maxine Nyeste, loving caring and giving mom and aunt passed away peacefully at the Toledo Hospital on Monday evening July 30, 2007 at the age of 78 after a long journey of health problems. The youngest of 8, Maxine was born on September 8, 1928 to Hungarian immigrants John and Mary Goromboly in Detroit, MI. The family relocated to East Toledo on Front Street in the Birmingham area. Maxine graduated from St. Stephens grade school and Wait High School.
In 1950, Maxine gave birth to her son, John, who she loved very much. She encouraged and supported his love for the drums over the years. This still shows, as John is known in the Toledo area musical world as "Johnny Andrews."
Maxine was a pioneer in her time, raising her son as a single mom. She worked her way up at Allied Foods to head cashier and payroll. She was employed with Allied for 23 years, which included Big Bear, Top-Value, K-Mart Foods and Center Supermarket. She also worked for a time at Schmidt meatpacking. Maxine made a career change and began working for Jobst Institute in East Toledo. She retired in 1995 from Jobst after 16 years due to losing her eyesight from diabetes.
At one time, along with her sisters, she was involved with the Hugarian Club of Toledo. She loved her family, Harlequin romances, and CBS soap operas.
Her parents, her sisters: Mary V. Hyden, Helen Willis, Betty Walsh, Ethel Hill, Theresa Kautz, Geraldine Trautman, her brother John Goromboly and her niece Sandra Ann "Sissy" Trautman Draheim preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son John A. Nyeste, his loving companion Debbie Schnabel and Deb's children Jennifer and Jay. Her brother-in-law, Richard Kautz. Her nieces and nephews: Diane Sue Lones of Oregon; Moose (Diane) Trautman of Sylvania; and Sandra's husband Robert B. Draheim of Temperance, MI.
