Mary C. Tuck

October 30, 1935 — April 11, 2021

Mary C. Tuck, age 85, of Maumee, OH passed away April 11, 2021 peacefully asleep at her home. She was born October 30, 1935 in Oregon Township, OH to William and Edith (Beuragard) Collum. Mary was born into a large family, the youngest of 12 brother and sisters. She was the valedictorian and chief editor of her high school year book at Clay high school, class of '53. She meet her one true love Ray, during high school. They knew in short order that they each had found the one. Theirs is a love, a love for the ages a never-ending example of self-sacrifice and commitment to one another. They were wed 9-4-1954.

They raised a very busy family of five children. As was the case back in the 60's and 70's the vast majority of raising the next generation including caring for the home and children fell on her shoulders. And she did an amazing job. Such was especially the case when early on Ray announced he was going to Korea for a two-year stent with the Army.

Mary loved to cook, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, crocheting and she always kept a lovely home. Her family's houses are all adorned with numerous handcrafted Christmas ornaments, stockings, advent calendars and the like. She certainly loved Christmas crafts the best. And the holidays were her favorite time of year because it meant that family would be together again. She took such great care of her family. Was known to scoop up in her arms any grand or great grandchild that was nearby.

With her children raised, her family was so proud of her when she set out for nursing school at the age of 50. She graduated as a RN from Mercy School of Nursing in July 1984. She had a very fulfilling and successful nursing career that spanned nearly 20 years. Most of those years were spent caring for the elderly in nursing homes. She was a charge nurse at many facilities, including Swanton Health Care were she ultimately retired. She felt most at home compassionately caring for those in memory care units. Thousands were touched by her listening ear, compassionate giving heart and excellent nursing skills.

After retirement, she was enthralled with watching her own children become parents. Then even more so, when numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren came, each the apple of her eye.

The last years she spent continuing to love on her family. To the end Ray and Mary, lovingly supporting each other, relishing each day they got to spend with each other. 65 years together were not nearly enough. Their life time moto was to tell each other every single day that they loved each other.

In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her sons, Michael and Eric Tuck. She is survived by her husband, Raymond E. Tuck; children, Kathleen Alessandrini, Jeffrey Tuck and Brian Tuck; grandchildren, Joey (Stephanie) Alessandrini, Amanda (Sean) Engler, Rich Horner, Tony Alessandrini, Tony (Meghan) Horner, Annie (Jamie) Leathers, Zach (Jamie) Alessandrini, Brittney Tuck, Joshua, Joel and Peyton Tuck and many great grandchildren.

Due to the current pandemic, a graveside service will be held at a later date at Lake Township Cemetery, Walbridge, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cherry Street Missions, Shriners Hospital or NW Ohio Food Bank in Mary's memory.

Please see two of Mary's Poems below:

So I've finished the tale
of a man and his wife
And how they spent twenty years of their life!
The memories are precious
the times seemed to short!
From building a cabin
to building a fort.
From small children earning
money carrying rocks.
To grown children still carrying
to help build a dock –
So even though we found
it so hard to part
We'll always carry Treasure Island
in our hearts –
So now we imagine the smell of pine –
And listen for wind to rattle the chimes.
We imagine the nights of a full moon
and can almost hear the sounds
of the loon!

My dear family, the years go by fast
And we need our memories to last.
So I'll snap a picture here and there
And put them here, for all to share.
Hope this brings a smile to you
Of times spent together, old and new;
With children, grandchildren and some new faces
Who give us much joy and fill in life's spaces.
It's really my hope to slow down time
And make you smile with this rhyme.
