Mary Ellen Szczepanski

Mary Ellen "Lucy" Szczepanski, born July 30, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on January 12, 2019 surrounded by her loving family and caring nurses. She battled pancreatic cancer for many years. Mary Ellen cared for many people in her life. She worked in Adrian, MI in the home health care industry and also in Toledo. Mary Ellen's love for thrift stores even landed her a part-time job even after retirement. She loved to garden, shop and decorate as well. Mary Ellen's children were loved and her grandchildren were her world of flowers.

Mary Ellen is survived by her loving partner of 27 years, Jerry Speelman; children, Robyn Szczepanski-Bangerter, Zeke (Annie) Szczepanski, Tina Szczepanski and Andrea (James) Eitzen; beloved grandchildren, Keith, Olivia, Grant, Isabelle, Dove, Andrew and Samuel; her great-grandson, Eli; Jerry's daughters, Wendy (Billy) Howell, Dori Speelman and Bernadette Speelman; and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; former son-in-law, Billy Bangerter; brother, Richard (Judy) Dudderar; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dudderar; many nieces, and nephews of Toledo and Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Bowen, Dodie Duhaime and James Dudderar.

The family will receive guests on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 3 – 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 5:00 p.m. Mary Ellen will be laid to rest next to her late husband Robert Szczepanski at Oakwood Cemetery in Adrian, Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
