Mary Jo (Akers) Baumbarger

Mary Jo (Akers) Baumbarger, resident of Rossford, OH, passed away on August 8, 2024 at age 84. 

She enjoyed helping others as a chemical dependency counselor at Behavioral Connections of Wood County, from which she retired. Mary Jo enjoyed her family, shopping, camping, playing dominoes with her daughters and checkers with her grandchildren. She was a great Santa to the family. She was a long-time member of Alcohol Anonymous and a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary 606 in Toledo. Mary Jo was born in Akron, OH on September 15, 1939 and the family then moved to Bowling Green, OH where she was raised. Later in life Mary Jo found the “Love of her Life” when she met Jim Baumbarger. They were married on November 15, 2003.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Oldham (Ron Geckle), Cindi R. (Jim) Schultz, Christie (John) Hunsinger; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Halladay and Georgia Mame Isaacs; husband, James Baumbarger; daughter, Karen Akers; grandson, Brandon Bernritter; siblings, Charles and Thomas Halladay.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a funeral service, including a VFW service immediately following, at 6:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southwest Chapel at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614.

Mary Jo will be laid to rest at Memorial Gardens in Bowling Green, OH
