Mary Jane Hannan, a long-time South Toledo resident passed away on November 13, 2024 at the Elizabeth Scott Community. Born to Pauline (Mielke) and Kenneth Hannan on March 5, 1942. She was a gentle soul, sweet, kind and loyal to all who knew her.
Following graduation from Rogers High School in 1960, Mary Jane explored many varied occupations. Her clerical skills led to secretarial work at the Travelers Insurance Company, Libbey-Owens-Ford and Martin-Lark insurance.
An interest in retail sales brought new experiences at shops in the Woodville and Franklin Park malls as well as work in several departments at the Andersons General Store in Maumee. She and her best friend Jean Lieber, realized a mutual dream of having their own business when they owned and operated Pal’s Ice Cream Shop in South Toledo for nine years.
In her spare time, Mary Jane enjoyed music, painting, photography, cooking, and traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Marvin Schultz, and stepbrother, Marvin John Schultz. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her best friend forever, Jean Lieber; sister, Brenda Hannan; brother, Jack (Karen) Schultz; nieces Krista (James) Dugan, Keriann Schultz (Chris Rogers), Kensey (Alex) Oberlin and nephew Justin (Kristin) Schultz. Also surviving is one great-nephew and four great-nieces.
A private burial will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Elizabeth Scott Community for their compassionate care of M.J. in her last days.
