Mary Deidre (Podiak) DeLong, formerly a longtime resident of Maumee, Ohio passed away Thursday, July 7th, 2016 at her home in Hurricane, West Virginia surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 22nd 1969 in Toledo to Richard S. and Patricia A. (McHugh) Podiak, Sr.
Deidre was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy, Class of 1987. After high school She went on to attend the University of Toledo, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelors of Education. Deidre was a teacher for most of her life choosing to home-school her own children before returning to the workforce as a private ACT Tutor. Through her business ECT, Educational Consulting and Private Tutorials, Deidre helped many children from around the Charleston-Huntington, WV area and beyond get into the colleges of their choice. She also served as a Pre-K Teacher while she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, WV. Deidre and her family are current parishioners of The Catholic Church of the Ascension in Hurricane where she also served as the Director of Religious Education.
Deidre met and married the love of her life, Dennis in 1991 in Toledo where they lived for 8 years before moving to Hurricane, West Virginia where they made their home and raised their three children. Because Family and Faith were everything to Deidre she lived her life with determination and purpose each and every day. She was a beautiful person both inside and out and will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness, sense of humor and quick-wit.
In addition to her mother, Pat Podiak, Deidre was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Lee DeLong, Sr. She is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, Dennis E. DeLong; children, Zachery Paul, Jakob Alexander and Eva Patrice all of WV; father, Richard Podiak, Sr. of Palm Coast, FL; siblings, Trish (Mitch) Pickens of Findlay, Rick Podiak of Toledo, Peggi (Bill) Burkett of Whitehouse, Deborah (Kevin) Hertzfeld of Waterville, David (Cindy) Podiak of E. Dubuque, IL, Douglas Podiak of Waterville, OH and Daniel (Diana) Podiak of St. Augustine, FL; mother-in-law, Henrietta (Al) Beane of Springfield, OH; brother-in-law, Robert Lee (Susan) DeLong, Jr of Xenia, sister-in-law, Sandra (Terry) Schultz, of Powell, OH and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and her Great Danes, Bert and Ellie.
Guests are invited to join the family Tuesday, July 12th, 2016 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd. with Fr. Jim Sanford officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo.
