Mary A. (Esse) Buyer

Heaven gained a beautiful Angel today. 

Mary A. (Esse) Buyer, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones from advanced lung cancer. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 22, 1941 to Edward and Katherine (Mahfuz) Esse. Mary graduated in 1957 from Scott High School. As a youth, she was involved in the Islamic Center as well as attending all youth conventions with the Arab community. At eighteen, she treated her mother to an unforgettable vacation to Egypt. 

Her marriage for 23 years to Ali Bejaige blessed her with four children that she cherished and adored. Mary loved nothing more than being a mom, grandmother, and taking care of others. Mary began her work career at Ohio Bell company and then became an office manager for many years at Rollins Truck Leasing. Mary also worked at Manpower and then retired at 62 from Howard Johnson Hotel as a front desk clerk. She made many friends throughout the years working especially with Lori Meadows Martin. In May 1991 Mary married Roger G. Buyer, with whom she shared a blissfully happy marriage until her passing. He was the love of her life and he gave her every treasure she ever wanted or needed. 

Mary never met a stranger and was everyone’s “Mom”. She was a lady of many talents; including her color-coded gardens of beautiful flowers, plants, and decorations on her 3 acres, this was her pride and joy. Mary loved shiny, bright things and they were always reflected throughout her home, her clothing and accessories. She enjoyed her coffee and shopping dates with her dear friend Melissa Crutsinger. Mary adored and missed her fur babies Baby, Copper and Sandra D. She was a very classy, elegant woman whose dedication to her family and community will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Alex Esse, Alice Jagniszak and Joe Esse; and son, Kalil Bejaige. 

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her loving husband of almost 33 years, Roger Buyer; children, Jeanine (Daniel) Lorigan, Braheim Bejaige and Janan (Ayn Generes) Bejaige; grandchildren, Brooke (Max), Daniel (Lisa), Ashley (John), Cassidy, and Sara; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Addison, Eamon and Eleanor; daughter-in-law, Wendy Bejaige; former daughter-in-law, Kelly (Ron) Seevers; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. 

The family will receive guests on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
